Does Jira support Markdown?
Jira Cloud’s new editor understands a few Markdown shortcuts as you type (like ** and #), but pasted Markdown, the REST API (v2) and Jira Server/Data Center expect Atlassian wiki markup. Converting first means tables and code blocks render correctly wherever the text ends up, including automation rules and API-created issues.
Using the output
- Jira Data Center / Server: paste into the Text mode of the description field.
- Jira Cloud: paste into a field that uses the wiki renderer, or send it via the v2 REST API
descriptionfield. - Automation and scripts: use the output as a template string.
Other formats
Markdown converts to: Confluence, Slack, LaTeX, BBCode, MediaWiki, AsciiDoc, reStructuredText, plus HTML, PDF, Word and Excel.
