Everything you need to write Markdown
MarkdownForge is a Markdown editor that runs entirely in the page. The preview updates as you type and follows the same rules GitHub uses, so what you see is what your README, docs site or wiki will show.
- Live preview with synced scrolling, or switch to Write / Preview on a phone.
- GFM extras: tables, task lists, strikethrough, footnotes, emoji shortcodes and highlighted code in 17 languages.
- Mermaid diagrams and LaTeX math render straight from
```mermaidblocks and$…$. - Multiple documents kept in your browser, plus share links that carry the text inside the URL.
- Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl B bold, Ctrl I italic, Ctrl K link, Ctrl S download. Lists continue when you press Enter.
- Table of contents generated from your headings, and updated in place when you press Insert TOC again.
- Exports to .md, a styled .html page, PDF and Word .docx.
- AI assist can tighten, expand, restructure or fix the Markdown of a selection when you ask it to.
The whole toolkit
Nineteen tools and twelve export formats, one job each. All free, all in the browser.
How to use the online Markdown editor
- Start typing or open a file. Paste text, press Open, or drag a .md file onto the editor.
- Format with Markdown or the toolbar. Select text and press a key on the toolbar if you don’t remember the syntax.
- Check the preview. The right pane shows the rendered result; the ruler above the source shows your column, handy for wrapping at 80.
- Export. Download Markdown, HTML, PDF or Word, or copy the HTML into a CMS.
Online editor vs. a desktop app
Desktop editors such as VS Code, Obsidian or Typora are better for large folders of notes. An online editor wins when you need to write or fix a single document now: on a borrowed laptop, on a locked-down work machine, or on a phone. Because MarkdownForge keeps the document in your browser rather than on a server, closing the tab doesn’t lose your work on that device.
